Skies Mag – Airshow London’s SkyDrive returns for 2025 with an action-packed aviation display

At twilight on Sept. 5, the Canadian Forces Snowbirds will fly in formation over London International Airport (CYXU), their wingtip lights perforating the sky like firebugs.

Then, as dark sets in, a 1956 de Havilland Chipmunk from GhostWriter Airshows, originally developed as a trainer for the Royal Canadian Air Force, will launch into a pyrotechnic display.

It’s expected thousands of spectators will be on-hand for these stunning performances—and many more—on the opening-night of Airshow London’s SkyDrive 2025, the top-rated event of its kind in North America.

“We really try to have an aggressive Friday night,” said Gerry Vanderhoek, the show’s director of air operations.

“You get to see some of the aircraft arriving for the show that don’t fly on the weekends, so that makes it a little unique … and it’s nice to see the Snowbirds in a different light.”
